Wine

The Best Wine

My favorite drink is big red wines. Especially Syrah, Zinfandel and Cabernet. There are some rare moments that a white is to my liking, such as with delicate foods - fish or light appetizers in hot weather. In this case my choice would be a crisp chilled italian pinot gregio.

Otherwise it's reds for me!

My philosophy

For wine - if its more than 10 dollars its not as good as it should be. Most of my favorite wines range in the 7-10 catagory. There are exceptions, especially for Pinot Noir and Cabernets. But more often than not I am dissapointed with an expensive cab or Pinot.

A great Zin and Sryah that i like is "Smoking Loon" and goes for about $7, it is very common and easy to find. For $7-$12 I really like the Napa Valley "Avalon" cabernet. I also like an occassional Italian Barolo or Chianti. Peas is a wine lover too and Im sure he has some good recomendations.

Where to buy

Never buy your wine at the huge WallMarts or whatever. The Grocerer is a good place and if your lucky you have a nice family wine dealer near you as they will offer the best and most unique wines with an understanding where they are from and what foods they are best paired to. I have been happy with getting my wine at these places and also at cost plus, the local grocerer and BevMo.

Wine with FOOD

Pinot Gregio with pasta, fish or baked chicken.

Most great wines should go well with cheese - My favorite cheese is Menchego, unfortuneatley it expensive and hard to find. I also like many other different types of goat cheese.

My favorite wine food pair is the grilled rack of lamb with rosemarry and a big hearty Cabernet. Or a nice grilled steak and a rich Sryah.

BBQ is better paired with Beer.

Rule of Thumb - If you like it - its a good pairing.

Cooking with Wine

When cooking with wine you can use a little of what your drinking or go to costplus - they have some good french wines that you can get for $4 that are great for making sauces.

After the meal

Have a nice rich cigar with a big bold red and thats the best.

If you have a favorite wine - let me know.

They say a little red wine every day is good for you. I have a little - with more every night.

I like White Zinfidal and Merlots.

Recently tried Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot. It went well with the steak we ate. I really enjoy the flavor and taste.
Let us make war, since evidently, you have found peace intolerable.
