Anzac day

Post by Paul.nz »

Another year has passed so today is anzac day.I was up at 4am and driving at 4.30 to go to the dawn parade starting at 5.30am.It rained heavily at 3am but was perfect weather by the time of the parade.Once again there was a lot of old soldiers and once again a increasing number of young kids with their parents or grandparents.
We had the usual speaches and prayers with the big canon and rifles
I have heard "the last post" hundreds of times but today was simply outstanding. It was perfect in every way and sounded perfect. The soldier playing it put everything he had into it and it was very moving. After the parade i went to the band and found the soldier who played it.He would have been 25 to 30 and is a soldier in the new zealand army.
The band was great marching after the parade and were funny. It is good bringing a bit of fun after the parade and the olderly people love it.
