time for a new HD?

Hey dudes. Well my PC issues keep getting worse. I can no longer install or uninstall anything on my PC. System restore cant take me back far enough to help.

Here are some specs.
Motherboard
ASUS name: PTGD1-LA
HP name: Puffer-UL8E
Chipset: Intel 915P
Motherboard specifications
Base processor and speed
Intel P4 530 3.0 GHz with hyperthreading
800 MHz front side bus
Socket LGA775
Ram (installed) 1GB (2X512MB)
Maximum allowed 4 GB (4x1GB) requires the replacement of the installed 512 DIMMs
Speed supported PC3200 MB/sec
Type 184 pin, DDR1- 400 SDRAM
DIMM slots Four
Open slots Two available

Hard drives
Internal hard drive: 200 GB, 7200 rpm, SATA

The only thing I added to the PC was to trade out the ATI card for an Nvidia 6600 256mb PCI-E card.

I am wondering what would be a good HD to use. I am thinking of the Raptor 150 10K drive. Any ideas from you all would be welcomed.
I plan on a fresh XP Media Center install when I get it.

And another thing is that it will no longer let me connect to any MOH server. Either through our quick links or browsing internet servers. What I might do is back up all that I can and then do a full system reboot. Any tips on backing up files?

From the symptoms you have described, it sounds more like you have met a virus at some point. Before laying down a stack for a new HDD try these suggestions first, they're free and will most likely find the cause: 1. Run Housecall from the following site http://www.trendmicro.com 2. Run the diagnostic programs provided by the manufacturer of your HDD. You can usually find mention of the manufacturer in System properties or in your BIOS.

After you have done both, don't forget to defrag the drive providing the Diagnostic software passed the drive. A 200 gig drive is going to have data spread out everywhere, slowing down seek times as well. :glasses:
