Xp now has Sound lag

Post by Private_Lapdance »

So I really hate moving to a new OS, therefore I ran WIN2K untill about a month ago. Since switching to XP I have been having a problem with MOHAA lagging badly. Not so much connection lag( although XP seems to not like my wireless router) as lag caused by my on board sound. Grenades, close quarters gunfire and most other loud noises make my frame rates drop to 2 or 4 frames( yes it really gets that bad) After the sound has passed or I respawn its all goodI have tried pretty much everything- Speahead patches, XP patches, new drivers for Video and sound, checked CPU temp- even new VIA chipset drivers- nothing.
Now, granted, my PC is a Dinosaur but uNder win2k everything ran really well. I'm running an Athlon @ 2ghz with 1 GB of ram, More than enough for Spearhead. I have nothing extra running in the background, just the usual XP OS stuff. Has ANyone dealt with this issue B4?
The Warlord of consistent skill never leaves traces of where he has been. He is indistinguishable among the many. His plans are well thought out, but are unfathomable to the Enemy. He appears where he is not, disappears into the void without a trace and prepares for his next attack. - Sun Tzu, Book 6-The Art of War

I would try to find an older version of your sound card driver, and see if that would straighten it out, if not uninstall the sound card and reinstall it.
