Kites
Some of you know my main hobby is flying gliders and will soon buy a plane. When the wind comes out i go outside.I also like the large kites you see flying like cats, dogs etc but cant afford the huge price tag so i made my own.My ones were always simple but looked good in the air.
This is my 7 meter delta. It is 7 meters from bottom corner to bottom corner and 2.4 meters high. This kite is so strong to hold when the wind gusts i had to make the center pole breakable so it folds in two and falls to the ground when it gets strong.
The small one is a copy i made from one i seen flying so then i modified it a wee bit bigger.

Wow You made those. Awsome job. I dont have the patience ot the talent to do such work. How much did it cost you to make you own instead of having to purchase? As by far which one is your favorite or do you like them all the same? I just dont have time to build one but I love taking my girls the the beach to fly their kites. Lots easier to do that here in the winter time. Not many people hording the beaches.
Let us make war, since evidently, you have found peace intolerable.

kite making
The large one cost a bit in materials but i got it at a good price. The inner piece is a material and the outter pieces are kite material.I got the material from a shop who was getting rid of it so i could bargin. The main cost really was the alloy poles.I used proberly 4 rolls of cotton for the sowing machine and a few needles. The stakes for the ground and the kite string had to be strong also so i couldn't buy rubbish.Basically if that broke and hit someone it could cause serious damage because of the alloy poles etc so i couldn't be cheap on some things.
I want to make long tails (30 to 40 meters) but the gliders are taking up all my spare time (apart from gaming).

false
Ouch that is false. It was actually 201 familys not 200.It was in 1851 because that is when the wind stated to blow in new zealand and the birds started to fly.
History lesson
This kite by itsself is a handfull to handle and it can be very hard to hold onto.I have seen photos with 8 or 10 of these connected together. This setup was used in the war to raise people up very high and out of gunfire range to look at the battlefield and to plan the next moves etc.

Man lifters
In the link i posted in 1848 a kite was used to put a cable across the niagara river. They made a competition and all the young boys made kites to be the first to get their kite to the other side so a heavy cable could be drawn from one side to the other so they could build a suspention bridge. We know them as eye candy but in the past they were working tools (Only when it was windy).
