Subwoofers

Post by Paul.nz »

Some of you know i have been stereo mad since birth.Teenage years was the boom boom of the subs and very loud music.
Now days i enjoy quality music at low volumns.I have been looking at making a new sub and i made one for a friend.I used one 100 mm driver and a dead 130 mm driver.I made a passive radiator inside a closed box.
A passive radiator means one speaker is driven and the others have no coils or magnets so are just dummy drivers.
If you see a subwoofer with one driver and two passive drivers that is exactly what it is.The wired driver can be mounted inside a box or aiming outside like a normal speaker.
This is a link for the box we copied and for the size it is amaizing.
To date the best subwoofer i have heard a friend of ours made.It was huge about 1 1/2 meters square with one 100mm speaker and he used it at nightclubs. In fact the total nightclub was running at 15 watts rms and it was loud.
Here is a passive woofer.Remember this is a 100mm (4 inch) driver.
