Paul,

I don't see any advantages to this over a multimeter, in fact a whole lot less

Check this out http://www.amazon.com/Fluke-114-Electri ... 0&sr=1-221

I have a multimeter.

Jimmy in the older cars you had power going to switches then through the load to earth etc.Modern cars need different tools. This is basically a testlight for finding faults not for checking resistance etc.It plugs onto the car battery so it has 12 volt when in use.If you probe a power wire the led goes red and if you probe a earth the led goes green. It also has a switch on it to send 12 volt through the probe to the wire to power the faulty component and also earth the component through the probe to the earth.
I have made one which seams to work fine but it has no circuit protection which is not very good with todays high tech cars.I have tried to buy a 12 volt 7 amp circuit breaker here but no luck.

Paul,

I've always used a DMM when working on my vehicles, I'm an engineer, 'cause it would help me find bad/intermittant connections, but this looks handy to have a power source to be able to activate relays etc. I didn't see a spec on the safety relay, but if it is ~7A that should be good. The big thing, as you know, is only touching one circuit at a time so it would be nice to know that the probes only expose a small area of metal.
