Hello yes i am ok.The earthquake hit christchurch again and has caused extensive damage and it looks like a lot of fatilities. It hit at 12.50 pm (lunchtime) and unfortunatly buildings have collapsed and people missing.
The whole country is in total shock.i have been trying frantically trying to get in contact with my friends there but with no luck. The emergency services are doing well and help is coming from other countrys.
Mighty turnip is from there and we can only hope and pray he is ok.buses and cars were squashed, buildings fallen and on fire,no power, limited phone coverage etc.
Today is a tragic day and its very sad.

Overnight emergency people managed to get some people out of buildings but a few hundred are still trapped. We have emergency people coming from australia, usa and japan.i know 6.3 is not that big but it was very shallow and directly under the city.I managed to contact one friend who went there for the day to work but have not managed to contact other friends.Hopefully today i will hear some news but untill them all i can do is hope.I also hope mighty turnip and his family are safe.

Kgb i am 189 miles away from christchurch. They had a big one in september and have been having a lot of aftershocks.Apparantly they are saying this quake was a aftershock.75 are confirmed dead with 300 to 400 people missing.Everyone here is still in shock and i still havn't been able to contact friends of mine.Emergency rescue workers worked all night and will work till they have found all the living.
This is the largest disaster new zealand has ever had and it will take a lot of years to get back to where it was.
The government is preparing people for the final death toll.It looks like it will be between 200 and 300 people.
Please pray for mighty turnip and his family and everyone else still trapped and their familys.

well there has been no more people rescued the last two days. The death toll so far is 113 and 220 missing so we have to prepare for the death toll to be about 333.I still havn't been able to contact my friends and all i can do is keep trying. Most of the city has no water or power and cellphone towers were damaged.
We have had a huge amount of help from other countrys willing to do what they can.We have search and rescue teams from australia, usa, china, japan, indonesia,uk,taiwan, singapore, and many more.I think we have about 700 people searching 24 hours a day but it is looking grim.Bodies have started being released to their familys and i say this has hit the country very hard.
Thank you for your prayers and for all the countrys willing to help us through this.

Great news

youth army

Today 18,000 youth from polytechs, universitys etc got together and went through christchurch helping people doing jobs like digging out cars, cleaning the propertys, collecting water for people or anything else the resident needs.
yesterday 330 police officers come over from australia to help out and the airport had a huge amount of people clapping and showing how much they are appreciated. They were all swawn in that day and now they are working with out police controlling the city and helping people.
One third of the buildings have collapsed and will be demolished. All the rescue now has been in the city but now they are going outside the city and the damage is shocking. The port is no open so supplies can get in.

On a shocking note police have arrested people for looting including one who stole 2 generators which were in use to the rescue effort. He is in the cells till his court date in the end of march.I say let the residents show how they feel about the scumbag who was putting their familys in more danger because of greed.

At this time there is 148 dead and 50 missing. It was 200 missing but some of the dead were counted twice so it looks like the death toll will be about 200 people.
It is incredible the help from kiwis and from other countrys.Money, food, blankets, free petrol, free gas for bbqs etc and it goes on and on.

One week

it has been one week since the earthquake.Today at 11.51 am the country had 2 minutes silence.Everyone from schools, supermarkets people on the streets just stopped and had a quiet time for 2 minutes.
The death toll now is 155 and they are now saying they expect 240 people to have lost their lives.

on a side note christchurch has a statue in the city of the man who founded christchurch.Unfortunatly this fell and broke but workman found a amaizing surprise.Underneath the statue was two time capsules. They have been there since mid 1800's and have been raced to the museum to protext them. They will read them and said they will put them back under the statue when it gets put back up.

It comes as ACC reveals it faces a $370 million bill from the Christchurch earthquake, including payouts for families who have had relatives killed and the ongoing cost for the rehabilitation and care of those seriously injured, ACC Minister Nick Smith says.

The figure is a sobering illustration of the human toll caused by last Tuesday's 6.3 quake, which is expected to claim around 240 lives and has left hundreds with serious injuries.

At least 10 people have had to have limbs amputated and thousands have suffered moderate to minor injuries.

The official death toll was raised to 159 this morning

It is a terrible site in christchurch.166 dead and about 45 missing. One third of the citys buildings have to be removed.10,000 houses have to be demolished and 100,000 damaged.
A lot of houses still dont have Power, water and sewage.People are living in tents, caravans and with friends.
Areas will be demolished and not rebuilt on and people will be moved to other areas.People are tired and have no idea what to do.Insurances are moving very slow and people who get paid out dont know if they can repair or rebuild their house or if the area they live in getting flattened.
we still havn't seen the mighty turnip in the server so i hope he has just lost power and is safe.
They estimate the damage will be 10 to 15 billion dollars for this quake.Remember they had one in september which hadn't been fully repaired yet.To pay for this it looks like our tax is going up and our insurances will go up.
On a side note our petrol is going up very fast.At the moment it is 6.01 usd per gallon. It is going up daily and we have been told to expect petrol to get much more expensive.Rumers are at 3 nz dollars per litre (11 usd per galon).
