I seen a program on the tv which was very interesting. In holland they trialed roads in the city with no traffic lights. They even had no footpaths. The cars and bikers and walkers actually had to think about where they were going. And the since they changed it they have had no serious accidents where they used to get 5 to 10 deaths per year.Other areas are trialing this with good results.
Their reasoning is people see it as dangerous so they slow down and take more care.In the study this is what happened and the traffic keeps moving. There is a drawback though and that is the blind people need traffic lights to cross so they are avoiding the areas.
The video i seen was actually incrediable and for smaller areas more seamed to be better.A lot of countrys are trialing it now so hopefully in time smaller intersections can be free of traffic lights.
