internet issues

For the last week, I can only get online for about 10 minutes before the internet stops working. I have tried different browsers like netscape and firefox and still cant stay on. But the weird thing is my modem is fine and I can hit MOHAA no problem. I bet it is some kind of virus that I cant find. Any ideas??? Thanks.

I had this one night. I couldnt figure it out but it was gone the next day on reboot (though i rebooted several times that night) - try unplugging your modem let it sit for a bit - if you got spybot? - run it - when you can connect be sure to update it - immune it - all that stuff.

if need be i was prepared to reinstal everything - always back up your photos and important stuff.

I was on last night and started to have lockup problems, rebooted, worked for a bit and locked up again so i turned it off for the night. When i turned it on today could surf net and even downloaded spybot and when i decided i didnt want it i uninstalled it, system had to restart to finish uninstall and just like that, i lost my OS. I was wondering if its a coincidence that this happened after put some guy in punishment mode ingame,the reason i ask i because ingame the banner says that some external deterents can be used if they keep returning after being booted. What are the external deterents and can someone do the same to us. Anyways food for thought, and im gonna have to take this thing in to get looked at because not even the recovery disc will load OS.

I highly recommend Spybot - not sure why you uninstalled it -

but as far as the game - you are at the mercy of the host. other clients ingame cant get to you easily (need the cia or something like it and probably could).

the external reference means quit / shutdown. no attachments, trojans, addware, or viruses are applied at TWL. That doesnt mean its not possible on other servers - but if it happens ive never seen it.

wow - lol, i was just kidding. The central intelligence agency "C.I.A." might have the resources to hack your PC - but i dont think they would share that with you. It's really not likely anybody is getting to you ingame (unless as i mentioned the host has control of your ingame keyed input).

Not even likely viruses playing a role in these types of issues.

Most likely is caused by addware - spyware

one main culprit interested in your activity is none other than gamespy. Others want to know what you buy and where u frequent on the web. Thats why it's called spyware and its legal - they use this info to market goods and bla bla bla and im sure used to get demographic info to help re-elect republicans. Spyware is brutal and invasive and eats your resources - its bad bad bad.

Anyways - get spybot and use it.

you pay for this ? eh funded im sure by those who wish to protect thier invasive culprits.

Get spybot - it's free - it's the best!!! and run by those concerned about fighting spyware.

Ad-Aware SE Personal is free w/ free updates and does work good but mostly for the data miner files placed on when you go to websites. These generally are to see what you shop etc but then again who knows what else. one should run Ad-Aware, Spy-bot at once a week if you do a lot of surfing or once a month at least if you mostly play MOH.

I know people have problems w/ Norton Anti-Virus but for me it has worked extremely well and has caught all the bad crap and will not allow it to even download. The biggest problem (I think) is that people do not take the time to set it up properly.

Finally I do swear by the router, ever since I installed it I have never been attacked by any outside source, it is a far better firewall than windows.

As far as Fro's and Caowlitz problem, I repeat, I am not a guru

It has to be a virus... When ever I scan a screen pops up and tells me the PC will be shutting down in 60 seconds.

Yes sir I know, the best thin you can do as I have once you re-format and download all of your maps, mods SP1 and SP2 etc save your whole hard drive (back up) to DVD disks they are 4.7 gigs so you know what you will need for storage. Do not I repeat do not back up now............... if you do you will carry the virus to the reformatted HD.

If you have photos etc that you want to save, save them to a DVD and just show them on your TV, if not you may advertently have a virus on or in the photo's. it is not worth taking the chance.

One thing about a re-format and loading only what you want will make your computer run faster and start quicker.

BTW, have you tried "Restoring" to an earlier date prior to your issues? You may want to do that and go back a month prior to your problems as it may have laid dormant until you used a file or something. at least it would be worth a try.
