I use to b/u on 2 hard drives - (over 150 MB) and both died at the same tme. It's ok to use a hard drive, I still do - but i only fire it up once a week now to save to it and i dont leave it running ever (to extend its life). In addition, I b/u all critical files - like family pictures - my source map files - important documents - and original mods all saved onto CD.

CD is the safest media you can b/u to.

Ouch, I would like to help. This HDD failure thing is the symptom not the disease. I need more detailed info though.
please provide the following:
1 Operating system.
2 are you running any "Virtual drive" software such as Dameon tools or Alchohol 120?
3 please describe your computer, things such as make and model or the motherboard itsself so ican determine the controllers it uses.
