<TWL> The War Legends

Today is ANZAC day which is a very special day here and in australia.We both paid a heavy price in a 8 month battle before retreat in gallipoli.
Once again i was up at 4.30 and went to the dawn parade in the city.It was a warm morning and a lot of people were there....young and old.
It started with a army heliopter flyover with no lights then speaches and prayers.As always it is a sad day and many like myself simply take a few hours of our day to honor all the soldiers who went to battle.We still have soldiers overseas and our thoughts are with them on this special day..
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM.

One of the amazing outcomes of the Gallipoli Battle is that the Turks honored the bravery and gallantry of the ANZAC forces with a memorial at a Gallipoli beach:

Lest we forget our brothers in arms from every corner of the globe ...

Each year they have a memorial at gallipoli and thousands of kiwis and aussies go there every year.The memorial is to honor all who thought there including the turks.It is awsome to see both partys standing side by side.Turkey lost a lot more soldiers than the allied soldiers and it is great they put up plaques there and arranged for the site to be used on this special day.
This was the largest disaster in ww1.It was misty and the ships dropped the soldiers in the wrong place.They should have been dropped at a different cove which had no hills.Instead gallipoli was a sheer cliff and they were all sitting ducks.But the end has a somewhat funny story.
At night they took soldiers away in the ships to get numbers down on the beach without the turks noticing.Then the last night they set up guns to fire at times with waterbuckets with small holes in it which when it become light it would fire.This made the turks think people were still there.So the retreat was a complete sucess and no one lost their lives retreating.
